Experiment 3 | THE BRIDGE

The creation of space via the element of movement in Architecture

People move about in a building, lifts and escalators go up and down, sun and shade play across the walls, the breeze wafts through and the foundations gently settle. Apart from these literal kinds of movement, architecture can express movement—or in other words imply, convey or embody movement—without actually moving. Movement is a measured element that defines space, this element seeks to articulate distinct and memorable places throughout the building. A combination of differentiated elements along with a sequence of different spaces suggests a kind of architectural motion. This sequence defines a transition from an open to an enclosed space which is dynamic, interacts with people and offers a variety of places. Architecture and the space it defines shape contemporary man's living environment and the climate of the places local communities identify with which can be recognized by strangers as well.

HSC Major Work - Designer Pets

“Designer Pets”, presents two hybridised species representing gratuitous scientific interference to satisfy a whim. The subjects present in an appealing manner emphasised by the empathetic expressions and certain vulnerability. However, their similarity to animals we think we recognise combined with unexpected elements introduces a tension between the natural and the artificial.

The House of the Infinite - Alberto Campo Baeza

I am interested in the way that the Architect employs the landscape in order to create a structure that compliments its environment of large expanse. Its minimalist nature engages with the context in a way that allows it to almost become a natural ornament through the use of smooth materials, colors and simplicity.

Original Picture of Something Beautiful

The image above depicts my 12 year old sister, Zanna, and our German Shepherd pup, Brixa. I thought this image was beautiful in that it captures the friendship between a young girl and a dog. The picture evokes a sense of security and warmth that is generated between the two friends expressed in the evident body language of engagement that implies elements of comfort and love.
