Experiment 3 | THE BRIDGE

ARTICLE MASHUP

The creation of space via the element of movement in Architecture

People move about in a building, lifts and escalators go up and down, sun and shade play across the walls, the breeze wafts through and the foundations gently settle. Apart from these literal kinds of movement, architecture can express movement—or in other words imply, convey or embody movement—without actually moving.  Movement is a measured element that defines space, this element seeks to articulate distinct and memorable places throughout the building.  A combination of differentiated elements along with a sequence of different spaces suggests a kind of architectural motion.  This sequence defines a transition from an open to an enclosed space which is dynamic, interacts with people and offers a variety of places. Architecture and the space it defines shape contemporary man's living environment and the climate of the places local communities identify with which can be recognized by strangers as well.

Experiment 2 | THE SPACE BETWEEN

Electroliquid Aggregation

“Why still speak of the real and the virtual, the material and immaterial? Here these categories are not in opposition, or in some metaphysical disagreement, but more in an electroliquid aggregation, enforcing each other, as in a two part adhesive.”

- Lars Spuybroek, [1998] Motor Geo

CONCEPTS

Yakov Chernikov

  • Suggestion of the movement and beauty of architecture without familiarity
  • Abstraction of geometric shapes to provoke an emotional rather than a merely visual response
  • Architectural constructions are derived from the imagination and are therefore limitless
  • Reconstruction of ancient architectural legacies from early cultures revitalizing them in the modern world
  • Exploration of the ephemeral
Barnard Tschumi

  • Re-evaluation of the impact of architecture and space as a reflection of personal space and political freedom
  • Dynamic nature of the relationship between the form and the spatial intention of the architectural structure
  • Architecture mirroring the role of art, reinventing itself as a medium for questioning and revising society
  • Architecture that also informs and enlightens the responder by means of its form and utility
